Titles
Would you like an explanation of each title and how individuals receive them?
Conformation Titles – the dog is judged against its breed standard for its conformation, movement, and how well it exemplifies the breed.
CH – Champion: A dog must obtain 10 points from various judges against other dogs of its breed to obtain its Championship
GCH – Grand Champion: a championship a dog must attain a minimum of 20 points which must include a minimum of two wins of at least two points each. Points may be gained at breed, group or Best in Show/Specialty level. Only the highest points earned at a single show are carried forward.
GChB- The title of Grand Champion Bronze may only be earned after the completion of the CKC conformation title Grand Champion is attained. (a) Points for this title are only accumulated after the completion of the Grand Championship, and do not include the points earned in attaining the Grand Championship. (b) To be awarded a Grand Champion Bronze title, a dog must attain a minimum of 50 points, which must include a minimum of two wins of at least two (2) points each. Points must be gained at breed, group or Best In Show/Specialty level. Only the highest points earned at a single show are carried forward.
GChS- The title of Grand Champion Silver may only be earned after the completion of the CKC conformation title Grand Champion Bronze is attained. (a) Points for this title are only accumulated after the completion of the Grand Champion Bronze is attained, and do not include the points earned in attaining the Grand Championship Bronze. (b) To be awarded a Grand Champion Silver title, a dog must attain a minimum of 100 points, which must include a minimum of two wins of at least two (2) points each. Points must be gained at breed, group or Best In Show/ Specialty level. Only the highest points earned at a single show are carried forward.
GChG- The title of Grand Champion Gold may only be earned after the completion of the CKC conformation title Grand Champion Silver is attained. (a) Points for this title are only accumulated after the completion of the Grand Champion Silver is attained, and do not include the points earned in attaining the Grand Championship Silver. (b) To be awarded a Grand Champion Gold title, a dog must attain a minimum of 200 points, which must include a minimum of two wins of at least two (2) points each. Points must be gained at breed, group or Best in Show/ Specialty level. Only the highest points earned at a single show are carried forward.
GChEX- The title of Grand Champion Excellent may be granted only after the completion of the CKC Grand Championship Silver Title. Exhibitors will be required to submit to Shows & Trials the Grand Champion Excellent Record Sheet documenting the additional requirements. The Grand Champion Excellent Record Sheet Form is located on the CKC website. To earn the title a dog must have earned the following during their career as a Special: (a) one (1) Best in Show or a Best of Breed at a breed national specialty (where a minimum of 10 dogs have competed) (b) three (3) Group 1st, or three (3) breed specialty best of breed wins. (c) a CKC performance title from any CKC Event. Titles excluded are: CGN, Herding Novice Tested Certificate, all Instinct titles from all events, as well as all Sprinter titles and all Chase Ability Program titles
BIS – Best In Show: awarded to the top dog judged the best at a conformation show against all dog competing.
BISS – Best in Specialty Show: awarded to the dog judged the best at a conformation single breed show BPIS- Best Puppy in Show: awarded to the puppy judged the best against all other puppies at a conformation show
BBPIS- Best Baby Puppy In Show: awarded to the puppy judged the best against all other puppies at a conformation show
BBPIG- Best Baby Puppy In Group: awarded to the puppy judged the best against all other puppies at a conformation Group
BPIG- Best Puppy In Group: awarded to the puppy judged the best against all other puppies at a conformation group.
M- M is used to say multiple wins more than 2 wins.
Obedience Titles –titles that you achieve points on how well your dog responds to certain commands and obstacles as well as retrieving tests and heeling exercises.
PCD – Pre-Companion Dog

Rally Titles- described as obedience exercises performed in a sequence format, with an emphasis on an upbeat relationship between handler and dog.
RN – Rally Novice
RA – Rally Advanced
RE – Rally Excellent
RAE – Rally Advanced Excellent
Barn Hunt Titles- The sport tests speed, agility, hunt drive, scenting ability, surefootedness, and control and responsiveness to handler direction.
Barn Hunt Instinct - RATI: Correctly indicate the tube with the rat.
Novice Barn Hunt- RATN: 3 qualifying scores, under one or more different Judges of Record. Execute a Climb. Complete an Official Tunnel. Correctly indicate one live Rat tube. These elements can be accomplished in any order.
Open Barn Hunt- RATO: 3 qualifying scores, under one or more different Judges of Record. Execute a Climb. Complete an Official Tunnel. Correctly indicate two live Rat tubes. These elements can be accomplished in any order
Senior Barn Hunt- RATS: 3 qualifying scores, under one or more different Judges of Record. Execute a Climb. Complete an Official Tunnel. Correctly indicate four live Rat tubes. These elements can be accomplished in any order
Master Barn Hunt - RATM: : 5 qualifying scores, under two or more different Judges of Record. Execute a Climb. Complete an Official Tunnel. Correctly indicate to the Judge when all live rat tubes have been found by declaring the course clear of rats. Elements can be completed in any order. A handler may choose to declare the course clear of rats then ask the dog to complete another required element such as a tunnel.

Sprinter: The purpose of the CKC Sprinter event is to provide all dogs, purebred and non-purebreds, and their owners an enjoyable, healthy activity in which they can participate. This is a timed event. Dogs run singly. The dog’s time to complete the 100 m (328 ft) dash is converted into KPH. Dogs earn points based on their handicapped speed. Titles are awarded when a dog has accumulated a given number of points
Novice Sprinter (NS) = 150 points
Sprinter (S) = 500 points
Advanced Sprinter (AS) = 1,000 points
Sprinter Excellent (SX) = 1,500 points; and 7.3.5 SX followed by a number (e.g. SX2) for every additional 500 points.
Veteran Novice Sprinter (VNS) =75 points
Veteran Sprinter (VS) =250 points
Veteran Advanced Sprinter (VAS) = 500 points
Veteran Sprinter Excellent (VSX) = 750 points
Veteran SX followed by a number for every additional 250 points
Scent Detection: There are five classes, starting with the entry-level “instinct” class, and in ascending order the novice, open, excellent, and master classes. Each class tests the dog’s ability at a new, more challenging level, encouraging greater perseverance and focus on fine-tuning of olfactory senses. The scent source may be within a container - the only option for the instinct level - interior of a building, or exterior - the great outdoors!

GChEX- The title of Grand Champion Excellent may be granted only after the completion of the CKC Grand Championship Silver Title. Exhibitors will be required to submit to Shows & Trials the Grand Champion Excellent Record Sheet documenting the additional requirements. Dock Diving- Dock Diving is a fun sport involving the entire family. CKC recognizes titles from North American Diving Dogs (NADD). This sport is continuously growing in popularity, showcases a dog’s athleticism and agility and it also creates a bond in a fun and competitive environment. Dogs launch off a dock into a swimming pool of water in pursuit of a toy or simply just to jump! This sport also creates a crowd of spectators who cheer the dogs on. This is a great sport for all breeds, sizes and various skill levels.
Trick Dogs appeals to all dogs and is both a fun and great bonding experience with a dog and their owner/handler. The CKC recognizes Titles from Do More With Your Dog®. There are various levels of trick titles from Novice to Expert and much more. These tricks can be tested by an in-person evaluator or via an online video. This is a fun way to enjoy time with you and your dog.
